Super Recaps: My Little Pony season 5 (Party Pooped)

We’re back with another chapter in Twilight’s Saga to become the Princess of Friendship!  After last week’s summit that had mixed results, she’s trying once again to prove her political prowess by inviting Royalty from a reclusive kingdom to the city of Ponyville!  So is this going to be a theme this season?  Is the show going to be the adventures of The Princess of Friendship trying to navigate the complicated world of Pony politics?  Equestrian House of Cards if you will?  I’m totally up for it if that’s the case!  Now the last episode was pretty heavily flawed, what with Spike continuing to be short shrifted by the writers, but this episode will at least have the benefit of Twilight not being unconscious for the majority of the running time.  Can she do a better job than Spike did?  Will her presence make this episode all the more enjoyable?  Let’s find out!!

The episode begins with the Mane 6 getting things ready for the diplomatic visit and Twilight stressing out over it.  Okay, so right off the bat I guess she doesn’t know what the heck she’s doing!  That or she’s still having trouble managing the pressures of being a Princess.

“The Princess of Friendship does NOT get nervous before a diplomatic meeting, right?  RIGHT!?”     “Uh… sure Twilight.  Whatever you say.”

Super Recaps: My Little Pony season 5 (Slice of Life) The 100th Episode!!

We’re back from the show’s three week hiatus with the ONE HUNDREDTH episode of the series!  Did anyone think it would get this far?  Well yes actually.  I mean we’ve got two spin-off films and a theatrical movie coming out soon.  This gravy train is gonna keep going until the wheels fall off, and even then they’ll find a way to milk it even further.  Still, it seems like the creators are taking this episode VERY seriously and want to make something that is truly memorable for the fans who have kept this series going for so long.  Is it a well done celebration of the show’s past and a hopeful look at the future, or is it a bad sign of things to come as the show slowly begins to lose relevance and creativity?  Let’s find out!!

The episode begins with Matilda (Hey!  We haven’t seen her for a while!) looking over her scrapbook which has gotten quite a few entries since the last time we saw it.

“He sure is a big ol' ball of sunshine, isn’t he?”

Super Recaps: My Little Pony season 5 (The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone)

We’re back with another episode of Game of Ponies, and after quite a few episodes we finally get another chance at high adventure and exploration!  That’s right!  We have another map episode and I can’t be more excited to hear it!  The last time they were sent on a quest, they battled the evils of communism and fought back against a cult leader!  Will this episode be just as good, or will the adventure this time around be a step down from what we saw in the season premiere?  Let’s find out!!

The episode begins with Pinkie Pie clearly in her element as she’s backing a dessert that’s so good, it’ll give your mama a cavity!

“What is best in life?   To crush the walnuts, see them baked into your Bundt cakes, and hear the lamentations of your enemies as you ingest delicious baked goods.”

Super Recaps: My Little Pony season 5 (Make New Friends but Keep Discord)

We’re back with another episode of everyone’s favorite reboot of a popular 80’s franchise!  Season five has been trucking along for a while now and it’s been mostly good but still doesn’t feel like it’s reached its stride just yet.  Will another appearance by the one and only John de Lancie be what this season needs to get going, or will yet another episode about Discord prove that even a character as dynamic and interesting as him can eventually be overused to the point of diminishing returns?  Let’s find out!!

The episode begins with Discord and Fluttershy having tea and sharing dirty jokes.

“And he asked them ‘what do you call yourselves?’  And then he says… THE ARISTOCRATS!!”     “HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!”

Super Recaps: My Little Pony season 5 (Appleloosa’s Most Wanted)

We’re back with another episode of the candy coated horse adventures!  Now so far, season 5 has been pretty up and down, what with episodes like Castle Sweet Castle and Tanks for the Memories not really hitting for me as much as the others we saw.  Will this one be another standout episode for the season, or will it be another mediocre slog in between the better ones that we get this season?  Let’s find out!!

The episode begins with the Cutie Mark Crusaders who are trying to come up with more schemes to get their Cutie Marks while visiting Appleloosa with Applejack.  There’s a big rodeo that’s supposed to take place soon, but the local sheriff is a bit apprehensive because some “low down varmint” is in town and he believes they are there to ruin the rodeo.

“Remember the number one rule of the wild west!  There’s no justice like vigilante justice!  NOW GRAB YOUR PITCHFORKS!!”

Super Recaps: My Little Pony season 5 (Tanks for the Memories)

After last week’s return to form for the series, we get a Rainbow Dash centered episode.  Now she can be pretty hit or miss when it comes to having her own episode, what with lackluster outings like The Mysterious Mare Do Well and Daring Don’t, but hopefully the writers have been able to learn from past mistakes and give us another stellar episode with everyone’s favorite egomaniacal Pegasus.  Will they pull off something nuanced and compelling examination of this character, or will we fall back on old tricks and wind up with another disappointment?  Let’s find out!!

The episode begins with Rainbow Dash who is helping everyone get ready for winter.  While doing so, she’s chatting excitedly with her pet turtle Tank about all the amazing things they’ll get to do during the snowy season!

“WE’RE GONNA HAVE SNOW BALL FIGHTS, AND DRINK COCOA, AND WATCH DIE HARD!!”     “Yeah… I think we need some space.”

Super Recaps: My Little Pony season 5 (Castle Sweet Castle)

After the very enjoyable and thought provoking season premiere, it’s time to wind things down a bit and get back to some good old fashioned stories about Ponyville!  Will we get another pleasant romp in the small town, or will it all just feel inconsequential compared to what we’ve seen already?  Let’s find out!!

The episode begins with Fluttershy and Twilight getting down and dirty with a whole bunch of soap suds!  HEY!  Get your head out of the gutter!

“Seriously Mr. Pig!  You need to quit playing in Applejack’s manure stockpiles!”

Super Recaps: My Little Pony season 5 (The Cutie Map)

Rejoice all you pony fans!  The long hiatus is FINALLY over!!  For too long we’ve been without everyone’s favorite show about talking horses with magic powers, but it’s finally back with the traditional two part premiere!  There are a lot of expectations going into this season, what with the defeat of Tirek leading to Twilight becoming the Princess of Friendship and the new responsibilities that entails!  From what we’ve seen so far, this season is going to be BIG with lots of adventures in faraway lands which gives the show endless possibilities as far as stories and characters to enrich this universe with.  So does the season premiere live up to the hype, or will it be crushed under the weight of unreasonable expectations?  Let’s find out!!  This is The Story of the Blank Flanks!  No wait, this is The Cutie Map!!

The episode begins an indeterminate amount of time after the finale of season four.  Twilight is still unsure what the heck her new battle fortress is meant to do other than be a gaudy landmark in Ponyville.  Everyone else is pretty chill about it and seems more interested in sitting in their customized thrones with their cutie marks emblazoned upon them, and soft cushions to maximize comfort.

“You guys!  There’s got to be some greater purpose for all of this!”     “What’s that Twilight?  I couldn’t hear you over the sound of my back getting proper lumbar support.  Ah…”
