We’re back with another episode of The Wonderbolt Years!  Rainbow Dash’s ongoing quest to become a member of the prestigious group might be reaching its ultimate conclusion with this episode that puts her among their ranks once and for all!  Will this manage to be just as good as the LAST time a major series long plot line had gotten a resolution which was Crusaders of the Lost Marks or is this a hasty conclusion that doesn’t adequately capture the magnitude of this event?  Let’s find out!!

The episode begins with Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash expositing to each other about an upcoming Wonderbolts event in Ponyville that Rainbow Dash will be a part of.  Rainbow Dash corrects her about one thing which is, as you know, she’s actually a RESERVE member which means she’ll be there but not in the main event.  Well that’s too bad.  If only there was a way for her to get a chance to fly with them, or if the Wonderbolts finally gave her a shot in their ranks.  If only something like that were to happen…

MLPS6E07-1
“That’s right Rainbow Dash!  We’ve got your wife!”     “But I’m not married!”     “You are now!  TO THE WONDERBOLTS!!”

We’re back with another episode of Everybody Hates Starlight!  She has been a bit of a contentious character, hasn’t she?  Some people weren’t happy with her becoming a main character at the end of season five, while others have found her to be the injection of new blood that this series needed.  I’m still optimistic, but I’m worried that they won’t take full advantage of what her character can represent and will just try to go the safe route.  We’ll have to see as this is the most Starlight centric episode yet!  Will they finally make good on the promises of this character, or will she be just as poorly utilized as the Cutie Map from season five?  Let’s find out!!

The episode begins with Twilight and Starlight setting the table for an upcoming dinner with Princess Celestia.  Why they’re setting the table a whole day before she shows up, I have no clue, though I’m willing to assume that was Twilight’s idea.  Maybe she wants to make sure it’s done perfectly?  Nope, because she gets crabby when Starlight sets it immediately (and impeccably) using her magic and I guess Twilight wanted to use the time to lecture her about friendship… or something.

MLPS6E06-1
“What could we POSSIBLY learn by setting the table slowly?”     “Uh… friendship is about patience?  Alright fine!  YOU GOT ME!  I just wanted to show off my custom made dinnerware!  HAPPY!?”     “it actually is pretty nice.”     “Thank you!”

We’re back with another episode of Let’s See What Spike Does with Too Much Power, as seems to be the premise of most episodes that involve him.  That doesn’t change here as this episode is all about Spike and the Dragon Kingdom; the latter of which we haven’t really seen since Dragon Quest from season two.  Will this be another episode that shows how great of a character Spike can be while also showing us new and interesting details about the dragons in this world, or will this just be another episode that pokes fun at Spike’s incompetence while also not doing much with the other dragons?  Let’s find out!!

The episode begins with Spike doing what he does best; menial tasks for Rarity to maintain his firm placement in the Friend Zone.  Right now, he’s filling the role of a pack mule while Rarity harvests her own crystals out of a cave somewhere.  Props to her for going that far to get good jewels, though you’d think there’d be someone else who would get paid to do this.  Her business is successful enough to have three locations, yet she has the time to go mine her own resources?

MLPS6E05-1
“Those bastards aren’t gonna price gouge ME!”     “Yup.  And your gonna stick it to them by bringing a baby with you to do manual labor.  Good job there Rarity.  Fight the power!”

We back with another episode of Cutie Mark Crusaders: The After Years!  Considering they earned their marks towards the end of last season, we haven’t really had time to address what they would be doing now that they are no longer crusading.  Will they’re post Cutie Mark debut be the start of new adventures and possibilities, or is this episode gonna be a huge admission of buyer’s remorse?  Let’s find out!!

The episode begins with the Cutie Mark Crusaders decidedly not crusading for cutie marks to the Apple Bloom’ chagrin who would rather their time be spent not looking at each other’s asses.

MLPS6E04-1
“Did you see my Cutie Mark!?”     “Yes, I’ve seen your Cutie Mark.”     “No, but did you REALLY see it?”     “I’m pretty sure I have.”     “Well look again just to make sure!”     “Yeah Apple Bloom!  And then you can look at MINE again!”

Super Recaps: My Little Pony season 6 (The Gift of the Maud Pie)

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and all the images you see in this recap are owned by Hasbro.

Episode directed by Denny Lu and Tim Stuby

Season six started on a rather low key note with last week’s premiere not having much in regards to stakes or world building outside of the introduction of Flurry Heart.  Still, while season five may have started SPECTACULARLY strong, it was right after the premiere that things started to go downhill with Castle Sweet Castle being a mindless slog to get through.  Can this episode manage to keep the quality consistent with what we saw before, or is this season destined to have the same nose dive that season five found itself in when it refused to build off of what had been set up?  Let’s find out!!

The episode begins with Rarity and Pinkie Pie on a train headed for Manehattan with the one looking to open a third boutique location (the best idea for any small business owner is apparently to overextend themselves) and the other on her way to visit Maud Pie; one of the more recent challengers for title of Best Pony.

MLPS6E03-1
“What about ME!?  I’m the quirky one who breaks the fourth wall!  I SHOULD BE THE FAVORITE!!”     “Just because it worked for Deadpool-”     “Oh THIS again!!”

It feels like it was just yesterday that this show was still on the air and not living up to it’s potential, doesn’t it?  Season five was overall a disappointment, mainly due to the MacGuffin they introduced being underutilized (the Cutie Map) and the finale not really having the kind of punch and significance that we are used to getting from this show.  There were more than a few important and satisfying episodes throughout the season (The Cutie Map, Slice of Life, Rarity Investigates, Crusaders of the Lost Mark) but taken as a whole it just didn’t do much to advance our main characters or the world that they inhabit.  Fortunately, the best thing Hasbro could have done was to minimize the hiatus between season which means we can move forward right away so that fans (like me) aren’t moping for too long about the mediocrity of the last season.  Can they manage to recapture the magic of this series with a smart and exciting season premiere, or will the mediocrity continue as we slowly realize that the show has reached its peak?  Let’s find out!!

The episode begins with Starlight Glimmer walking through the halls of Twilight’s Doom Fortress; looking for the library and hanging lampshades along the way.

“It sure is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside!  I wonder if that’s a reference to something… *COUGH* Badwolf *COUGH*  Excuse me.  Must have something in my throat.”

Super Recaps: Equestria Girls: Friendship Games

For the third year in a row, the mad geniuses behind Friendship is Magic has brought us a movie based on what might be one of the dumbest and cynical ideas that you could come up with for a spinoff of a fantasy series.  If you think about it, this is the same crazy idea that led to awful movies like Highlander 2: The Quickening, Beastmaster 2: Through the Portal of Time, and Masters of the Universe.  Somehow though, despite all that was working against them, the team that made colorful horses into a cross generational smash hit managed to make Equestria Girls into a quality and meaningful extension of the series.  Neither of the previous films were perfect, but they managed to be a lot of fun and at brought a bit of variety to the franchise which is more than I think anyone was expecting.  Now they’re back with the third movie which looks to go even more in depth with the parallel universe gimmick by making the Twilight Spark of this universe the focus of this outing.  Will they be able to knock it out the park again with this movie, or have they gone as far as they can with this secondary series?  Let’s find out!!

The movie begins with everyone running frantically to school to face whatever new threat has befallen them this time.  Oh no wait, Rainbow Dash just needs a new guitar string.  Well, to SOME people that would be an emergency (mainly Rainbow Dash).  Oh well, at least there’s absolutely NOTHING strange going on at this school for once and everyone can… wait who’s that?

First a trio of sirens and now the Unabomber!?!?

Super Recaps: My Little Pony season 5 (Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?)

WHAT!?  We’re not gonna have ponies to talk about for a couple of months!?  HERESY!!  First Sailor Moon Crystal is ending its first season and now this!?  What will become of me without magical girls and magical ponies to talk about!?!?  NO!  I CANNOT LET THIS GET ME DOWN!!  I HAVE A JOB TO DO HERE AND I’M GONNA GIVE IT MY ALL!!!  So how do they decide to end this half of the season?  Why with a Luna episode of course!  Everyone’s favorite princess gets the spot light this week as we find out more about what’s going on inside her head and the trouble it causes for everyone else!  Will we get another classic episode like Luna Eclipsed, Bloom & Gloom, For Whom the Sweetie Belle Tolls, and several others, or will we get another bad one like… huh.  Actually, I don’t think she’s HAD a bad episode.  There were episodes where she was underutilized for sure, but never one that was bad.  Well THAT’S certainly a good sign, but can they keep up the trend in this episode!?  Let’s find out!!

The episode begins with the Mane 6 barreling down the halls of the Castle of the Two Sisters, clearly looking for something with the utmost of haste.  Their goal seems to be Princess Luna who’s standing in the main hall of the castle and seems to be expecting their arrival.  While waiting, a small cloud of star energy or whatnot appears behind her, and Luna address it as Tantibus and lets it know she’s ready for whatever happens next.

“My body is ready.”

We’re back with another episode of Politics is Magic!  Well not so much THIS time considering that Twilight almost started a war last week and a riot the week before, so she’s gonna take some time off from being one of Equestria’s highest ranking officials.  Just let the dust settle before she accidentally strains diplomatic relationships with the dragons or whatever.  Instead, Twilight is going to tackle some personal problems that she left hanging back in Canterlot and has resolved to fix now that she’s not fighting monsters or putting doubt in the monarchy at the moment.  Not a bad idea considering how much time Twilight spent in Canterlot before she moved to Ponyville at the begining of the series!  Will we get a fascinating look into her life before coming to Ponyville or will they drop the ball on yet another really interesting idea that was only half thought out?  I’m looking at YOU Lost Treasure of Griffonstone!  Anyway, Let’s find out!!

The episode begins with us learning that Spike continues to do domestic chores for Twilight despite them living in a GIANT CASTLE which would be impractical to maintain with a single person, let alone a still developing child.

“I sure hope those harsh chemicals don’t stunt my growth!”     “Me too Spike, but let that keep you from making those floors sparkle!”

We’re back with another chapter in Twilight’s Saga to become the Princess of Friendship!  After last week’s summit that had mixed results, she’s trying once again to prove her political prowess by inviting Royalty from a reclusive kingdom to the city of Ponyville!  So is this going to be a theme this season?  Is the show going to be the adventures of The Princess of Friendship trying to navigate the complicated world of Pony politics?  Equestrian House of Cards if you will?  I’m totally up for it if that’s the case!  Now the last episode was pretty heavily flawed, what with Spike continuing to be short shrifted by the writers, but this episode will at least have the benefit of Twilight not being unconscious for the majority of the running time.  Can she do a better job than Spike did?  Will her presence make this episode all the more enjoyable?  Let’s find out!!

The episode begins with the Mane 6 getting things ready for the diplomatic visit and Twilight stressing out over it.  Okay, so right off the bat I guess she doesn’t know what the heck she’s doing!  That or she’s still having trouble managing the pressures of being a Princess.

“The Princess of Friendship does NOT get nervous before a diplomatic meeting, right?  RIGHT!?”     “Uh… sure Twilight.  Whatever you say.”
